If you're a complete beginner, then forking out for a professional model loaded with advanced features won't make sense. In it's simplest form, a cajon is a wooden box, but since you want that wooden box to sound good and feel comfortable while you learn to play your first beats and rhythms, Sela offer up the simple and affordable, yet expertly built Primera cajon. The Sela SE 118 Primera Cajon Perfect for beginners, the Sela SE 162 Primera cajon has a nine-ply birch wood build, making the base, top, sides and back a good 12 millimetres thick while the front playing surface is a touch thinner to make sure that your bass, snare and clap sounds are projected through the box in full. Inside, a pre-fitted Sela Snare System helps deliver a crisp snare sound, the tension of which can even be adjusted for a more custom response. The snare system can also be removed for a more traditional, round and warm cajon sound, but if you're looking for a deeper, bigger snare sound, a second set of snare wires (not included) can even be installed. This standard-sized cajon is 47cm high, 30cm deep and 30cm wide and weighs just 4.6 kilograms.
