While many multi-track recorders can play a lot of tracks, the number of tracks that can be simultaneously recorded is usually limited, and eight tracks, say, don't get you very far. A lot of these recordings also have numerous functions and features that you don't need if you're going to mix your audio using a computer. Sure, you could just set up a laptop and a seriously extensive audio interface, or you can keep things fuss-free with the Tascam Studio Bridge: a portable recorder designed for one thing and that's recording a ton of tracks at the same time. The Tascam Studio Bridge The control lay-out has been kept as clean as possible. After all, the Studio Bridge has been strictly designed for recording up to 24 line signals to an SD card (not included; max. 512GB). Actually, it can also serve as a 24-in/24-out audio interface and supports DAW control via HUI/MCU. Tascam have mounted six DB25 connectors that transfer eight balanced line signals each, so of course, you're free to hook up external preamp modules for microphones too. Just note that the Studio Bridge does not feature a built-in phantom power supply. Rack-Ready Design While 24 tracks seem like a lot, it really isn't much when you mike up all of the drums separately, set up a pair of synths with stereo outputs, plug in two vocal microphones, and want to accommodate backing vocals and maybe a small wind ensemble. What's also great is the Studio Bridge can be installed in a 19" rack using a compatible rack mount kit (sold separately) to complete with a portable recording kit.
